Welcome to Greifswald!
Especially at the beginning of a new semester or at the start of your studies, many people find it very difficult to find a flat or a room in a shared flat in Greifswald. Here we want to provide you with information and links to make your search easier. So far, everyone has found something in Greifswald, even if it can take a while at the beginning. You can find useful information here and on our information sheet on financing and finding accommodation.
Before you start looking for a flat:
- Think about the size, furnishing and rent of the flat;
- consider whether a shared flat is an option;
- when applying for a place in a hall of residence, check whether there are any deadlines to be met.
After that, there are various official and unofficial ways to find out about accommodation.
Advertising platforms, pages for flat-sharing offers and, for example, flat-sharing groups on Facebook are recommended here.
Don't be discouraged if you don't find the perfect flat share or flat when you start your studies! Many students move within Greifswald during the course of their studies if the demand is not as high as at the start of the semester.
Halls of residence of the Studierendenwerk
The easiest way to obtain accommodation is to submit an application to the Studierendenwerk. Here you can get a furnished room in one of the 6 halls of residence in Greifswald. You can find the application form here. However, capacities are limited and not everyone will be able to find accommodation in a hall of residence at the beginning of the semester. In this case, you can of course put your name on the waiting list.
Private housing market
There are two housing associations in Greifswald (WVG, WGG) with different conditions, but they always endeavour to provide student-friendly housing and offer accommodation in every location, rent and furnishing.
There are also a number of other private providers. You can find the relevant links at the bottom of the page.
If you have any further questions, please contact our Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities Officer.
Good luck with your flat search!
You can't find a flat?
If you need help, there is an emergency accommodation exchange here on the student portal at the start of the semester. This is where people offer temporary accommodation, flats for interim rent or search offers for new tenants. The service is provided by the General Students' Committee (AStA).
