Our demands for the future

Petition "No cuts to our future"

A word of power has been spoken: Science Minister Bettina Martin (SPD) commented on the planned cuts to the universities of applied sciences (UAS) in MV and defended the EUR 18.3 million reduction in spending on research and teaching. The dispute with the universities is primarily about the financial reserves. Because as Hennis (Student Pro-Rector) said: "Cuts to the universities' financial reserves are direct cuts to research and teaching". That is why we want to point out the consequences of reduced expenditure and demand: "In times of crisis, we do not need cuts in the education of young people in M-V, but investments in our future"! The austerity plans would inevitably lead to vacancies and cuts in equipment. The consequence of this can only be that the range of courses on offer will be reduced and the quality of studies and teaching will suffer.

In response to this emergency, a petition has been drafted that takes up the demands of the student body.

You can find our petition here!

As a passport, our banner from the bicycle demonstration with all the signatures was taken to the Ministry of Finance in Schwerin. Thank you to the representatives of the Greifswald student body!!!

Bicycle demo on 22 November 2022

Your rent in the hall of residence/halls has been increased? The rising cafeteria prices are increasingly becoming a financial workload? The €200 flat-rate energy fee hasn't reached you yet either? Are you dissatisfied with the state's education policy?

These problems sound familiar to you? The last education rally wasn't that long ago and the problems are still the same. Of course, we don't expect a solution so quickly, but we do expect solutions. We have to pick up where the last rally left off! We have to make noise again so that we are not forgotten. Studies are often forgotten, for example when it comes to financial matters. That's why we demand: In times of crisis, education must not be cut back. We demand compensation for the energy costs for universities of applied sciences (UAS), the reversal of the announced cuts and sufficient financing for Student Services so that the Mensa (cafeteria) and halls of residence/halls remain affordable.

We demand affordable studies for all, even in times of crisis!

It will take place on 22 November before the general assembly. All events will be cancelled from 12 noon. Enough time to meet at Beitzplatz by bike at 1 pm. The route will be announced later. It will end at the Löffler campus before the general assembly takes place.

Education rally on 03 November 2022

Your rent in the hall of residence/halls has been increased? The rising canteen prices are increasingly becoming a financial workload? The €200 flat-rate energy fee hasn't reached you yet either? Are you dissatisfied with the state's education policy?

Then demonstrate with us on 3 November at 12:30 on Rubenowplatz!

We want to give the students of our university a voice and demonstrate against the austerity policy of the Ministry of Science. In addition to increased energy costs, universities in the state are facing cuts totalling 18 million euros. Cuts that will also affect teaching, as the financing of teaching positions is jeopardised.

It is clear to us that education must not be cut back in times of crisis. We demand compensation for the energy costs for universities of applied sciences (UAS), the reversal of the announced cuts and sufficient financing for Student Services so that the Mensa (cafeteria) and halls of residence/halls remain affordable.

We demand affordable studies for all, even in times of crisis!

Come to Rubenowplatz in front of the University Main Building on 3 November 2022 at 12:30 to make a joint statement.
