Ballot: Semester ticket for Greifswald?
Why a semester ticket?
The federal and state governments have agreed to make a nationwide semester ticket possible at all universities as part of a full solidarity model. The aim is to introduce this at our university for the 2024/25 winter semester.
What does full solidarity model mean?
The full solidarity model here means that all students enrolled at a university pay for the semester ticket, regardless of whether it is used or not. The reason for this is that the reliable payments mean that a correspondingly high discount can be offered on the ticket.
If the ticket is not needed for health reasons or due to a stay abroad, it will be possible to be exempted from paying the ticket price.
What does this mean for the students?
The semester ticket will cost 60% of the Deutschlandticket (currently 60% of 49.00 euros = 29.40 euros per month and 176.40 euros per semester). As the price is linked to that of the Deutschlandticket, the first price increase is already due in the winter semester 24/25. This increase will then be added directly to the price of the semester ticket. As the semester ticket is valid for all students, the semester fee will also be increased. All further information on how this increase is made up will be explained at the online information event.
When and where will the ticket be valid everywhere?
The semester ticket will be valid nationwide and for local and regional transport, like the existing Deutschlandticket. The semester ticket will be issued digitally for each semester. This means that for the winter semester 2024/25, the semester ticket would be valid from October to March. A new ticket would then be issued for the new semester.
Why do we need a ballot?
The aim of this ballot is to involve the entire student body of the University of Greifswald in this process as transparently as possible. This means that the more students take part in the ballot and vote for or against the semester ticket, the more accurately the opinion of the student body will be reflected.
We also want to provide information about the semester ticket as transparently as possible.
