Department student councils

A department student body is made up of all students from a subject discipline or Institute of study. Sometimes smaller or related subject disciplines are grouped together in a department student body. When you enrol, you become a member of one or more department student bodies at the university. There are currently 24 department student bodies.

Each department student body has a Department Student Council (FSR) to represent the interests of the students of the department. These are elected annually by the department student body and consist of three to nine elected members, depending on the size of the department student body. The coordination of all department student bodies takes place once a month during the lecture period at the student council conference (FSK).

Department Student Councils

The Department Student Councils represent the interests of their respective department student bodies. They are the link between the students and the teaching staff at your Institute of study and vice versa. As a member of the FSR, you have the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of interesting and varied tasks. The FSR departments range from the organisation of specialist events, parties and Freshers' Week to public relations, studies & teaching, finance and chairmanship. As a member of a dynamic team, you will gain numerous insights into the processes of your faculty as well as the entire university and have the opportunity to make many contacts, e.g. with lecturers or other student bodies (AStA, Stupa, Senate, Faculty Councils). At our university, there are a large number of Department Student Councils, from the FSR English Studies to the FSR Dentistry, 22 in total. They meet once a month at the department student body conference to discuss and vote on topics that are matters for all department student bodies and students. The opinions expressed there naturally carry a lot of weight, as the Department Student Councils have the best notification of students' matters. As a member of the FSR, you therefore have the opportunity to play an active role in shaping events at your faculty and in university politics as a whole. In addition, your involvement in the FSR is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and personality. The members of the FSR are elected by the student body in university policy elections at the beginning of each year.
